CONCRETE REPAIRS IN NEW ORLEANS

Repair Concrete in New Orleans

Concrete is a very resilient building material and will usually last longer then the structure it supports. Although sometimes other underlying factors can take cause cement installations to fail pre-maturely. If you are from the city of New Orleans, you can attest after a drive through our city. Things such as subsidence (the slow caving in or sinking of an area), tree roots, or excessive loads can damage concrete over time. The good news is that often, damaged can be repaired rather then replaced. Repair is often a viable and economic way to restore your damaged concrete.

Subsidence Repair

If your driveway or sidewalk has small areas detaching from other sections or sinking in a specific area, it may be possible to cut and remove this small section and replace it. Our technicians will cut and remove the existing piece and reform and support the new section by tying in rebar to neighboring pieces that will make for a strong and long-lasting repair. Unfortunately, if the entire slab is sinking this means that it was not properly supported in the beginning. In certain areas of the city driveways require additional support by building footings or driving pilings. We will not be able to see if this in necessary without first doing a visual inspection of the property.

Cracks

Surface cracks although unsightly, are often just cosmetic concerns. If a piece a concrete has a crack larger then ¼ of an inch it may be from movement and should be filled with a concrete filler or patch. This can be done by the homeowner but we suggest watching the area and if the section become uneven and cause a tripping hazard you should call Orleans Concrete Services to come out and quote you on replacement options.

UPHEAVAL

Upheaval is the opposite of subsidence. Upheaval is when the concrete is being raised by either or a foreign object or by too much convergence pressure. If there are trees nearby, the concrete section must be broken up and the roots removed, soil repacked, and the broken section replaced. Unfortunately, when pouring cement around areas with trees concrete contractors can not tell where this could become a problem. If trees are not around the concrete could be raising because of too much lateral pressure, if caught early this problem my be fixed by installing an expansion join in the concrete. This is done by cutting a line completely through the entire section on cement which allows the concrete to expand and contract with changing weather conditions.
